Operational Details
Helicopters are wingless aircraft that use lift and propulsion from horizontal revolving overhead blades. This is unlike fixed wing aircraft. Because of this difference helicopters may land and take off from confined and rugged places. They can also hover in one place and fly closer to the ground.
There are some similarities between a helicopter and fixed wing aircraft including the ability to take aerial photographs, survey, reconnaissance and advertising, crop protection products. However, these activities are minor to the overall operations. There are also major differences. Examples include a helicopter being used to drop off firefighters in burning areas, or being used to make powerline repairs while hovering over the broken line.
Helicopters haul large freight loads into isolated areas. The freight can be dropped off without having to touch down. They are also a valuable tool in natural disaster emergencies and road accidents. Often, these aircraft fly to the site, pick up the injured and fly them directly to a hospital, landing on a helipad on a roof or adjacent to the facility.
Fueling, maintenance and repair, if undertaken by the business, is considered part of the overall operations.
