Learn what benefits a dependant spouse or common-law spouse of a deceased worker could be eligible for, including earnings loss benefits, annuity program and vocational benefits.
The WCB provides benefits to a dependant spouse of a worker whose death was the result of a work injury. These benefits are described in Sections 80 to 94 of The Workers’ Compensation Act, 2013.
You can also contact the federal government’s Service Canada agency at 1.800.277.9914 to apply for survivors pension through the Canada Pension Plan (CPP). Please note that WCB legislation states that after 12 months, one-half of any monthly survivor’s pension received under CPP may be considered as income. This income is deducted from the WCB benefits payable to a dependent spouse.
For more information on spousal benefits, see the Dependant Information Package.
