The Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board is committed to open and transparent communication with its customers. That’s why we are excited to host Compensation Institute 2018 on March 19 and 20, 2018 at Evraz Place, Queensbury Centre – Regina.

This free two-day educational event features a number of world-class guest speakers addressing current workplace health and safety issues, as well as WCB claims management, prevention and employer services information and two workshops.

Breakfast and lunch are provided both days of the conference with registration.

When incidents occur, they are attributed to human failure, the belief that the processes or systems are fundamentally safe except for the people using them. Glenn is the President of the Canadian Initiative on Workplace Violence and in the wake of well-publicized workplace abuses throughout Canada and the U.S., employers and unions are growing increasingly concerned about the safety of employees. In response, regulators are placing greater responsibilities on employers to place prevention programs to address problematic behaviours, ranging from workplace violence to personal harassment. This two-hour workshop will focus on the critical elements of a comprehensive workplace violence prevention program. Glenn will address everything from policy development to acceptable training and follow-up, including critical issues surrounding intimate partner violence and abuse of power.

In this session, Emma will outline how to implement a comprehensive workplace health and safety program that integrates both. Fatigue can be deadly for workers, co-workers, families and businesses. At its most benign, it is a significant source of stress among employees and affects job satisfaction, health, absenteeism, engagement, and even injury rates. The risks are greatest for shift workers - those who work at night, those who work odd hours, people on call and those who work regular overtime. In other words, the vast majority of employees! A Fatigue Risk Management Plan is critical in giving employees a fighting chance against this threat to their own well-being and the well-being of the organization.

Beyond that, what can be done? In this session participants will learn what factors influence fatigue that are work-related and those that are non-work-related, proven personal strategies to manage fatigue and decrease risk and organizational strategies to address this potentially deadly issue.

10 influencing factors for risk acceptance
