Burial expenses
As soon as it’s decided that the death is a result of a workplace injury, learn what payments the WCB makes to help pay expenses related to the death of the worker, including burial.
The WCB assists with burial expenses if a worker’s death is the result of a work injury.
As soon as it is determined that the death is a result of a work-related injury, the WCB will:
- Issue a lump sum cheque to help pay for expenses related to the death of the worker, including burial. Check with your customer care facilitator for this year’s amount.
- Pay for the cost of transporting the body inside Canada, if the death happened away from the worker’s home community.
What is an estate?
An estate is a legal process for dealing with the property of the deceased, including WCB compensation, after death. For more information, visit the Saskatchewan Court of Queen’s Bench website. Also consult with a lawyer and your financial institution.
Additional resources are available from the Public Legal Education Association of Saskatchewan:
- a death in the family
- wills and estates
