Operational Details
A domestic firm contracts out their workers to private home owners. The workers sweep, mop, wax and polish floors, dust furniture, vacuum carpeting, clean area rugs, draperies and upholstered furniture. They make beds, change sheets, distribute clean towels and toiletries, clean, disinfect and polish kitchen and bathroom fixtures and appliances. They may also wash and clean windows, empty trash containers and generally perform any household chores assigned by the client.
A domestic firm may also contract out babysitting services. The babysitter usually works throughout the period the parent or parents are not available to look after the children. It involves feeding, caring and generally being physically present for the children throughout the day or evenings.
A private home owner or parent may want to hire a firm that is in the business because they will be licensed to operate as a business, will have reputable references and generally are thought of as being professional. Whereas, someone who hires a worker they do not know may be more at risk in having someone who is either not qualified or incapable of doing the job. Businesses providing domestic workers will replace an unsatisfactory employee with someone who will meet with the client’s approval. Another advantage of using a professional service is the homeowner or parent does not have to be concerned with hiring or firing, looking after income tax deductions, CPP or Employment Insurance..
