Fitness centres are facilities that provide space, equipment and machines used for training, exercising and improving one’s health. Equipment may include but is not limited to; free weights, cardio machines (rowing machines, stationary bikes, elliptical trainers and treadmills) and exercise machines which use cables and gears to guide the user’s exercise. Most fitness centres offer a variety of group fitness classes and personal training. Other amenities may include dietary counselling, massage therapy, steam room, showers, swimming, running track, snack bar, towel service etc. Fitness centres charge an annual, monthly or drop in fee to use these facilities.
Instructors for the Arts and Fitness are employed to convey information and skills to others in a variety of fields including the Arts (dance, theatre, art, music, etc.) and fitness (gymnastics, cheer, martial arts, swimming, skiing, yoga, other sports instruction). The instructors are knowledgeable and competent in the area in which they are instructing, this instruction may involve demonstration and participation. Instructors will often play an administrative role responsible for the registration of students, collection of dues, and basic maintenance of the facility (preparing for the class, cleaning up after the class, etc).
If an individual is engaged in instruction of another person, that person is covered while they are instructing. However, if that person was to enter a competition or engage in the activity for personal reasons, rather than for the purpose of instructing others, then the person would be excluded from the Act.
