Operational Details
Motor club operations include the Saskatchewan Automobile Association (SAA), which is affiliated with the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA). The SAA offers travel advice, weather report assistance, vehicle registrations, insurance policies, disability insurance for members, emergency road assistance, towing, and legal advice in matters pertaining to traffic law. Other motor clubs usually do not offer the same range of services, but focus more on automotive assistance and advice on travel and insurance. Some clubs may be affiliated with the Co-operative movement, others with department stores like Sears.
Travel agencies are usually 3-5 person operations and employ travel consultants and office administration. Travel packages are arranged by tour companies and vacation planners, or they may arrange the packages themselves. The focus is on selling travel and entertainment packages for those who travel out of the province and country. Rail, air and land travel are arranged and paid for through the agent.
Travel tickets or vouchers are picked up from the agent. They also put together relevant tourism packages to assist the traveller on items such as sightseeing, accommodation, and entertainment venues. There are several packages available, depending on the customer’s needs. Revenue is earned by charging a fee to the traveller, and/or from arrangements made with those whose packages they are marketing.
