Operational Details
Drafting technologists and technicians prepare engineering designs, drawings, and related technical information, working often in multi-disciplinary engineering teams, or in support of engineers, architects, or industrial designers. They use computer aided design (CAD) and drafting stations. They complete documentation packages, produce drawing sets, construction specifications, cost and materials estimates associated with the drawings or design.
Blueprinting is the reproduction of a drawing or design in white on a blue background. Blueprinting services are provided to architects and engineering firms, plus general contractors to aid in the construction or building process. Special machines are used, that allows the printing on oversized, heavy constructed paper, on a blue background that reproduces an image that can be used as a "blueprint" or a set of directions that the builder must follow to perfection in order to successfully complete all the contractual obligations.
Workers involved in the above processes include drafting technologists, draftsmen, blue print machine operators, architects and engineers (employed in providing a service to architects and engineering firms, etc.).
