Description

Operational Details
What sets this group of employers apart from those who are involved in earthmoving and cat work is that the work undertaken is within the farm community. Farmers who wish to have land cleared hire a firm in this subcode to perform this service for them. It may also include the cutting down of brush by pushing it out of the way and then using a push cat or caterpillar tractor, using heavy breaking plows or shears to turn over the new soil. This process exposes tree stumps that are ripped out of the earth. Caterpillar tractors push the stumps and brush into piles so they ca be burned or removed.

Removing stumps, in some cases, requires the use of dynamite, referred to as “stumping powder”. The dynamite explodes in a downward action, blowing out the debris and roots of the trees. Brush cutting is usually a prelude to the land clearing activity, however, may also be done for farmers when there is a need for a road allowance to be cut through a stand of trees.
