Operational Details
Peat moss, once harvested, is hauled by the peat moss producer to the processing facility, where it is stockpiled. From there the peat moss is transported by a front end loader into the plant for processing. Using an automated process, moisture is removed through compression of the product. It is then cleaned and graded by passing it over larger shaker units.
After grading, the peat moss is bagged and placed in a load out area for distribution.
Peat moss is used extensively in the horticultural industry. It is also considered an alternative material in the cleaning up of oil spills because of its high absorbency.
