Operational Details
Power tong operations include the use of a truck mounted set of hydraulically operated tongs that are used to screw together and break apart sections of pipe or casing that is removed or placed in a drill hole.
Snubbing includes the use of a truck mounted hydraulic jack that clamps onto drill stem or casing, to control the force or torque on tubular goods which is exerted by well pressure. By moving the jack up and down, and releasing and resetting the clamps, the casing can be set into or removed from the well.
Snubbing also includes using truck mounted blow out preventers that are operated to control pressure on the well. These services are primarily provided to workovers and well completions. However, it is also used in the drilling industry.
Torque monitoring is a service also provided which requires using a gauge or computer monitoring system that measures the amount of torque applied when joining two joints of pipe together . This is accomplished during power tong operations.
