Operational Details
A satellite dish operations includes the receiving of dishes and antennae, in component parts. Some assembly is undertaken prior to sale and the dishes sold may either be freestanding models mounted on pedestals, or anchored on a steel pipe assembly. The dish may also be a smaller version that can be bracket mounted onto a garage or residence.
Servicing includes replacing components of the dish or metal mesh sections that are damaged by birds or falling debris. Antenna sold are also used for radios, two-way radios and receiving stations for phones etc. Repair is usually restricted to the replacement of parts.
The sale of satellite dishes and antennae often involves selling to customers in more remote areas of the province, or in areas where reception is interfered with. Customers will also purchase dishes so they can receive satellite signals of American stations that are restricted pay for view. While these dishes are presently illegal in the U.S., they are not illegal in Canada.
Employers in the satellite dish business may have a service and delivery van that delivers the product to the customer as a condition of the sale. On site or mobile repairs can be made using inventory, spare parts, and tools stored in the van.
