Janitorial and cleaning supply stores may mix cleaning compounds and bottle it for re-sale, sell cleaning rags, chemical cleaning agents, laundry supplies, commercial vacuum systems, and tools to clean. Bathtub repair and refinishing includes the re-enameling of ceramic tubs, or refurbishing the tubs by using plastic liners, skirts and covers, or enclosures.

Janitorial employers employ sales people and general labourers who blend chemicals, handle shipping and receiving, and generally help around the store front, or supply shop. Sales includes over the counter and calling upon perspective clients at their place of business. Incidental repair of commercial vacuums or cleaning devices may also be undertaken. Brooms, mops, scrubbers, floor polishers and de-waxers are stocked.

Bathtub repairs and refinishing is undertaken at the customer’s home, or place of business. Often an enameled tub may be chipped, or the colour is no longer in fashion. Restoration includes cleaning the tub, removing rust marks, water stains, and taping it. The enameling of the bathtub surface is accomplished by using a specialized paint sprayer, filling it with the appropriate coloured paint, and by using an electric compressor with a hose attachment, the product is sprayed onto the surface. More than one coat may be applied. (A mask is used to avoid breathing in the fumes.)

Refinishing a tub can include cold painting by brush, or spray bombing the surface with enamel paint. Other repairs include assembling plastic skirts around the old enameled sides, or enclosing the entire tub with a vinyl liner, that also extends up the walls to form a complete tub and shower enclosure unit. Tools used are mainly hand tools, skill and jigsaws, power drills and screw drivers, compressors and painting equipment. Service trucks carry all the necessary supplies. Employers in tub refinishing and repair often have a small storage facility where paint equipment and supplies are kept.
