Employers operating computer stores sell and service either a particular brand of computer products as a dealer, or they sell a variety of computer brands. Associated equipment and supplies are also sold. These computer stores usually have in-house consultants who assist the customer in the purchase by demonstrating the products and giving advice. The store may also have a help desk or repair department that deals with technical problems. When the service desk is unable to solve a problem the product may be returned to the manufacturer. As a customer service, a loaner computer may be provided until the customer’s equipment is repaired. Some stores may offer in-house financing.
Business machine retail stores sell cash registers/POS machines, scanning systems, digital scales, inventory control systems, calculators, paper rolls, coin trays, etc. Office equipment such as desks, chairs and filing systems are sold. Office and school supplies may also be sold, these include paper, pens, markers, binders, staplers, calculators, etc. Other services may be provided to help support local businesses such as shipping, printing and marketing services.
Inventory work includes taking inventories in a retail environment and comparing the figures to those of the customer. This service is offered when a retailer either doesn’t have the time, expertise, or inclination to do their own stock taking. An independent inventory company is also more objective when dealing with sensitive or costly items. (i.e. a large jewellery store, hospital supplies, computer stores etc.).
