Handicraft stores generally sell their own manufactured or assembled products. Items include: home made jams, honey, aprons, pillows, furniture throw covers, bedspreads etc. Hand crocheting, knitting, sewing, woodworking items and the making of pottery, etc..

Generally, the retail part of the operations are found in shopping malls and outdoor venues. Often, the person looking after the booth, kiosk, or store front, will also knit, or assemble crafted items when things are slow.

In some cases, the handicraft operator may sell items on consignment from homemakers and from volunteer organizations. The handicraft business usually takes a commission on the product sold, and passes the balance to the artisan.
