Description

Operational Details
Cabinetmaker study plans they have drawn up, or those presented by the customer. The outlines are transferred to the stock to be cut and the pieces or components are cut out by means of power saws, jig-saws, band saws, moritisers, shapers, and other hand tools.

Cabinet making includes trimming the ends of the wood products, usually veneers, laminates, solid woods. Joints are glued, clamped, nailed, screwed, and put together with various other fastening devices .Sanders are then used to smooth the surface. Various stains and paints are applied by electric sprayers, by brush, cloth, and polished to finish the product.

Kitchen cupboards, bathroom cabinets, entertainment centres, etc. are fabricated often in a shop environment and then the same workers install the cabinets at the construction site.

Cabinets can be mass produced for housing developments, however, custom homes requires more fitting and adjusting on-site. Many of the same tools used in the shop may be used at the construction site. Sideboards, cabinet extensions and setting cabinets into place is often time consuming with walls being “out of true” or inconsistent.
