Commercial bus operators provide a transportation service throughout and to destinations outside the province. Customers purchase tickets from the carrier either at the time of travel, or purchase prearranged packages for extended trips.

Tour, chartered, and sightseeing bus operations are also included in this industry. A tour guide usually accompanies the group.

The operation of a bus line, other than school bus operations, includes the dispatching of the vehicle to scheduled points of destination. Driver training is often given in-house and a Class "A" licence is required. Baggage handling is also included in this industry. Freight hauling is also a component of commercial bus operations.

Scheduled and preventative maintenance is undertaken by the commercial carrier to ensure buses are mechanically sound and meet safety standards. Heavy diesel mechanics repair engines, power trains, replace brakes and make other mechanical repairs as required.
