Description

Operational Details
Camp caterers provide facilities and personnel to do all the work necessary in maintaining and operating a camp. This includes the preparation of meals, ordering in supplies and food, housekeeping and janitorial duties, maintenance, and repair of the camp,

The catering service is provided to road and bridge construction, oil and mineral exploration and industrial camp sites. The logistics of operating a camp are somewhat different than operating a restaurant, in that camp caterers may also provide sheets, bedding and laundry services for the client. In addition, planning menus, ordering food supplies and organizing and planning meals is often done for large numbers over a short period of time.

The camps are usually set up in the more remote locations and most supplies must either be trucked or flown in. Camp cooks, servers, maintenance and janitorial staff, and mechanically inclined workers perform several tasks around the camp. In some instances, the caterer supplies the cook house and shower trailer for workers, and it is their responsibility to have it transported to the worksite. This entails hiring a heavy hauler to transport the trailers.
