The steel or other metals are sold so much per ton.

Equipment used in this industry includes: loaders, crushers, compactors, welding and cutting torches, brakes and shears, metal saws, pipe benders and cutters, overhead magnets and overhead cranes.

Salvage dealers may also purchase scrap from municipalities (dumps), auto wreckers, automotive repair shops, heavy equipment repair depots, etc.

Pick up of the scrap is integral to this industry as the customer often has no way to deliver it themselves. Delivery may also form part of the scrap metal sale.
