Operational Details
Rural municipalities are also governed by the Municipal Government Act. It covers area not included as a village, town or city. These areas may form rural municipal districts.
Rural municipalities have well defined boundaries and work to provide local government and administrative services for areas considered as rural municipalities. While a municipality may encompass towns or villages within its boundaries, each has its own separate government and is administered by its own constituents.
Like cities, towns and villages, rural municipalities provide administration, public works, sanitation, maintenance, etc. within its jurisdiction. Often subcontractors are hired, even though the municipality may have its own equipment and repair facilities.
Volunteer firemen are also part of this industry and an integral service to the rural municipality. The district may have its own fire engine and facility which is operated by the volunteers.
Employers in this industry code also provide emergency services such as: fire, ice and water rescue, search & rescue, assistance with firefighting and medical stand by services. Workers are qualified as first responders and have first aid and paramedic training. Volunteers may be part of the work force and therefore coverage is not extended to them through the WCB.
