Plumbing and heating supply stores sell a variety of fixtures such as bathtubs, toilets, basins, kitchen sinks, hot water tanks, galvanized, copper and plastic fittings, adhesives and glues, solder and paste, plumbing and hand tools, pipebenders, toilet snakes, pipe wrenches etc. The supply house usually sells directly to the end user or home owner. However, plumbing contractors also purchase their parts and fixtures at a supply store, and are given a contractors discount or wholesale price. The operations are housed in a store front with a storage capacity. Often the business is located in commercial or industrial areas in urban centres or will have a store front on a main or major street in smaller centres.

Some plumbing and heating supply stores, using a van or truck, may also deliver plumbing products to retail stores and contractors. A supplier may recommend a plumbing contractor to a customer, however, the store owner does not receive a commission for this, or pay the subcontractor directly. The contract is between the customer and the plumbing contractor. If the plumbing and heating shop hires subcontractors, they may require an additional classification for installation and repairs.

Swimming pool sales includes the sale of jacuzzis and hot tubs. Accessories and pond liners are other products sold. Usually the business is operated out of a store front with a display area and working models of some of their products. Stock is also kept on hand for short term sales. Swimming pools are prefabricated, and they can be welded or bolted together. However, customers using a poured in place pool, often purchase fittings, hoses, pumps and motors, cleaning tools, etc. from the supply store. This operation is similar to a plumbing and heating store, and any contract of service for installation done either by the store, or a subcontractor, may require an additional classification.
