Operational Details
Trophy shops sell a large variety of trophies on pedestals and stands that are sold as received from the manufacturer or supplier. Likewise, medals are brought into the store and sold in the same manner. However, when requested, the shop will mix and match stands or pedestals with the trophies. Occasionally, custom wooden stands are manufactured for the customer in the shop.
Purchasing a trophy begins with either accepting a design of a trophy that is on stock, designing one’s own, or the store may design it for the customer. A figurine, statue or caricature is attached to a base. Most times, assemblers screw, clip, glue, bond, weld, or otherwise assemble parts and components to form the final product..
Equipment used includes jeweller’s pliers, saws, shapers and benders, screw drivers and hand wrenches. A band saw or jigsaw may be used infrequently to manufacture a custom base for a trophy. It is also possible, if the business is larger, for the employer to subcontract a woodworking specialist to manufacture wooden or metal components for the business. In that case, the subcontractor would be classified in welding and ornamental iron in M92-02 or M92-03 and if woodworking, it would be classified in M92-09.
