Dry goods stores sell bolts of cloth, ladies and men's apparel. Shoe stores sell a variety of foot wear for each season of the year.

Leather goods stores sell wearing apparel such as leather jackets, skirts and pants, purses etc. A wig shop basically sells and fits hair pieces and wigs for the customer.

Milliner shops specialize in fancy headgear. (The word Milline comes from Milan, Italy, where fashion designers made the bonnet for women popular.) Ladies hats, bonnets, and headgear are the most common items.

Haberdashery shops are a men's hat store. There is a cross over with milliner shops, as many of the hats are unisex. They may also sell fine linens and threads.

Shoe stores and leather goods shops may make minor repairs and fittings to goods sold. A wig shop operator might also trim the wig or style it to the customer’s needs.

The stores are operated by sales clerks, stock, and inventory personnel, who may also sell and cashier as well. Goods received are usually delivered by third party carrier by truck or train. Buying inventory may also require some travelling to fashion shows and wholesale houses out of province.

Safety supplies include: fire resistant clothing, headgear and footwear, fire extinguishers, safety flares, chains, ropes tie downs, foam and shovels. However, these products are lightweight. Some wearing apparel shops also sell them.
