Description

Operational Details
Paving stone employers prepare estimates for perspective customers, sign contracts and do ground preparation by removing any unnecessary overburden or debris. Sand or gravel is spread with reinforcing mesh, when required, and finally paving stones are delivered by a flat bed truck. The pallets of stones are off loaded with a cherry picker, and stones are cut, using a machine that looks similar to a ceramic tile cutter. The cutter is hydraulically operated and pressure is used to break the stones into the desired shapes.

The sand which forms the base for the stones is levelled and tamped down with a tamping machine, and after the stones are laid manually, sand is poured in between the stones and a vibrator is used to shake the sand down into the cracks forming a solid surface.

This industry is labour intensive and the product comes in various shapes and sizes, but usually are a more dense material than building bricks. It is used on driveways, walkways, perimeters around swimming and wading pools, sidewalks and door entrances for residential, commercial and industrial buildings etc.
