Description

Operational Details
Siding contractors install metal, fiberglass, vinyl and other siding materials to the exterior walls of a building. Usually the installation is either in residential or commercial applications. Because siding contractors also work from ladders, scaffolding, and elevations, the installation of soffits, and fascia underneath the roof, are natural extensions of a siding contractor’s expertise.

Workers use nailers, staplers, hammers, shears, tin snips, and other hand and power tools to complete the installation. A skill saw or table saw with a special metal cutting blade is used to cut the siding to length on the construction site. It may also be used for soffits and fascia. Eavestroughing can either be a continuous roll of metal that is preformed into eavestroughing without seams, or it can be installed in precut lengths and metal tabs. Waterproof sealants are used to seal the joints.

Employers in this industry may have a sheet metal shop where eavestroughing is preformed, siding may be cut to measurement, or soffits precut to the required lengths. In addition, some incidental roof flashing may be fabricated for the roofing industry, for a home owner who is doing their own roofing, or for a local hardware store that requires a few pieces for a preferred customer etc. The important point is that the flashing or sheet metal work done for the general public is incidental to the overall operations.
