Description

Operational Details
Plasterers apply several coats of plaster material to interior walls, ceilings and building partitions to produce plain or decorative surfaces. Plastering is generally undertaken in residential applications and requires expertise most drywallers do not have, as drywalling involves wallboard installation, corner beading and taping. The more expensive custom homes have sculpted ceilings, molded pillars, and wall coving. The cost per square foot for plastering is considerably more than applying drywall to the same surfaces. Other plastering applications include parliament buildings, libraries, museums, historical buildings, opera houses, and expensive mansions.

Stuccoing is the application of a concrete type material used to form a hard covering for exterior walls. It is mostly seen in residential applications and occasionally in the more expensive walk-up apartments and housing complexes. Stucco is also used in entrances and covered in areas to produce a highly decorative effect that is consistent with the exterior wall covering. Most of today’s builders use a stucco made of Portland cement, sand, with a small percentage of lime. California stuccoing is one of the more popular applications in the 1990s and produces a troweled effect on exterior walls.

Equipment includes delivery trucks, vans, compressors, sprayers, hand and power trowels, hammers, drills, mixing buckets, mixers and bags of stucco or plastering materials which are mixed with water.
