Description

Operational Details
Operations include the supply of wooden, metal or fiberglass overhead doors and may be assembled in sections on-site. The doors are equipped with rollers, rails and springs. An important component is the installing of an electrical motor, anywhere from 1/3 horse up. The motor is attached and chains or cable are used to lift the door up, or to lower it.

Some doors are opened mechanically, and do not use automatic or remote door openers. Pulleys assist in reducing the dead weight being lowered or raised. Installation, replacement or maintenance requires the use of hand and power tools, a ladder, mechanical lift, scaffold, or scissor lift apparatus. Service trucks are used to deliver, remove and replace parts. Often an overhead door business will have a store front or display centre and will stock authorized factory parts (Barcol Doors, Steelcraft etc.).

Roll shutters are assembled and installed in a similar manner to overhead doors and are often installed in new construction at the same time as overhead doors. The shutters are mainly used for security reasons on commercial buildings and warehouse structures.
