Satellite dish installation is done by assembling on site a satellite dish by either hosting it into place through the use of a piece of light mobile equipment or a truck mounted cherry picker, or installing a smaller version on the roof or side of a residence, apartment or commercial structure.

Cable vision or the use of cable is used mostly in urban areas, whereas the larger satellite dishes are installed in the more rural or isolated areas where reception is limited. Technological advances are reducing the size of the dishes and the ones that require the setting of poles in concrete in a free standing mode are being replaced by the smaller more efficient models that requires considerably less installation time and effort.
