Activities include the setting and mending of nets, retrieving the nets and removing the fish, preparing them for market and transporting them to a fish packing plant or to the marketplace.

Usually, fisherman do not gut or process the fish, this is often done by a fish packing plant, or the fish are sold whole, with the customer cleaning the fish.

In some instances, where a large body of water is located, the fishermen may also fish from boats. Instead of just setting the nets and coming back and pulling them up out of the water, the fish are caught by heavy commercial fishing lines, or by netting. This is a larger type of operation and usually includes more than just one operator and worker.
